Bulldog Grooming

Bulldogs in general require very little grooming.  In fact due to their nice short hair coat, you could almost get away with never grooming them.  But in order to help your bulldog live the healthiest life possible here is a summary of the required grooming, especially the brushing, the bathing, and the nail trimming…

Bulldog Coats

Since bulldogs shed very little and have such short coats, regular bathing is not necessary.  In fact you should not bath your bulldog more than once every month or two.  Over bathing these dogs and result in their skin drying out or worse, becoming very oily.

At a minimum you should brush their entire coat about once every two to three weeks, just to get any loose hair.  Also this is a good time to give your bulldog a health exam to see how they are doing.

Brushing Teeth

Ideally you should try and brush your dog’s teeth once a day.  It only takes a minute, and you can do it during a TV commercial break.  There are lots of ways you can do this very easily.

Nail Trimming

Trimming your dogs nails is a must in order to keep them from scratching your floor or from keeping them from growing too long and breaking off.  Remember that less is more and you should not trim too far back otherwise you will hit what is known as the quick and you will have a lot of bleeding.

Summary

Caring for bulldogs is much easier than most other breeds.  These are low maintenance dogs which means you can enjoy having more fun together, rather than waiting at the groomers for their latest trim.

Remember that regular vet visits can keep your dog healthy for many years and is a great way to catch problems early.
