Bulldog Information

Bulldog information tells us that they originated from England and that there are currently three breeds of bulldogs, the English, the French, and the American.  Each of these three breeds have very distinct traits which make them unique.

How did bulldogs get their name?

Bulldogs get their name from the time they originated in England.  Bulls would be tied to stakes and dogs would just up and grab their snout in what was considered a sport back then,  hence the name bulldog.

Which bulldog is the largest?

American bulldogs can reach about 100 pounds, the English bulldog is about 50 pounds, and the French bulldog is the smallest at about 50 pounds.

What are common bulldog health problems?

Bulldogs, due to their head shape often have problems breathing which can be severe.  Also the folds on their heads can become infected.  Bulldogs are also prone to elbow and hip problems.

Which breed of bulldog came first?

It is believed that the American and French came from the English bulldog.  The French bulldog is from the runts of the English bulldog, and the American bulldog is from breeding more athletic bulldogs together.
