Bulldogs And Children

Bulldogs and children normally get along great.  But remember there are three different breeds of bulldogs and they each act differently around children.  In general bulldogs should not have any problems adjusting to a house with children, but here are some things to think about.

French Bulldog

This dog probably gets along the best with children.  It was bred to be a lap dog and is used to being petted and handled.  It is normally in a good mood and has the energy needed when kids want to play with it.

English Bulldog

This dog is okay for children, but it may not like to play with them as much as the French bulldog would.  Also these dogs are much bigger than the French and hence its size and appearance might be intimidating for a small child.

American Bulldog

This is the largest of the bulldog breeds, and it is generally not recommended for families with small children.  If you have older children, this could be good dog, but in general there are much better dog breeds for children than this one.

Summary

One of the biggest factors in determining the right breed for your children is how your child behaves towards animals.  Even the nicest breed will bite if provoked or teased long enough.

It is important to teach your kids how to respect animals, so that when you are not around you can trust them to behave in a proper manner.
