Is Bulldog Insurance A Ripoff?

Is bulldog insurance worth the expense?  It seems like paying monthly premiums for your bulldog can really add up after a while.  Well after some researching I found out that both Consumer Reports and Reader’s Digest both say the pet insurance is rarely worth the expense.  How can this be?  Well I uncovered some interesting facts about pet insurance that may surprise you.

First of all I know that pet insurance offerings have improved over the years but why does Consumer Reports, Reader’s Digest, and Forbes magazine all say that pet insurance is rarely worth the expense and in many cases can add thousands of dollars to the cost of insuring a pet.

Just buy searching around the internet you will see there hare tons of posts about how people feel ripped off by paying pet insurance for years.  One lady I know paid $37 a month for two cats for 13 years and never saw a dime of it back.

Pet insurance companies will say that you should not view pet insurance as an investment, but that is exactly how they are promoting and selling it, as a wise financial investment.

Here are just some of the reasons why pet insurance is rarely worth paying all those monthly premiums for years:

First of all some people like the fact that pet insurance will cover the costs of having your pet spayed or neutered and will pay for vaccinations.  But ask your self how often do you need to have your dog spayed?  Only once.  How often do you have to have your dog vaccinated?  Once every three years.

Now you can start to see why paying all those monthly premiums are not actually worth it.

Second of all there are other factor you need to take into account like breed specific conditions and long waiting periods, and re-existing conditions.

If your bulldog for example has a breathing problem that requires medical care, the insurance company could try and get out of paying that claim by saying that it is a breed specific conditions related to bulldogs and there fore not covered.

Also you have to beware that sometimes pet insurance companies will claim that some conditons are what is known as pre-exisiting, and therefore you might never be able to claim anything related to it.

Make sure you do your research before buy bulldog pet insurance.
