Raising Baby Bulldogs
Raising baby bulldogs can be a lot of fun, but it is also a lot of work and responsibility. By reading and educating yourself about what needs to be done. Most people get their puppies after they are weaned, but here is some information on how to wean bulldog puppies, what vaccines they need can some other tips on how to give them a great start.
Feeding
If you have to actually wean some puppies, know that starting at about 2 to 3 weeks of age your puppy should start to eat solid food. Try to offer your puppies solid food three times a day, don’t leave it out all the time though because it ends up being a mess.
Try to soften some the dry puppy food with some warm milk or water to soften it, making it easier for them to eat it. When the puppies reach 12 weeks of age cut back on the feedings to only twice a day.
Only offer the food for about 15 minutes at a time and take away any uneaten portions. At the age of 6 to 9 months start by mixing the puppy food with the adult dog food over the course of several weeks.
This way the change is gradual and your bulldog will continue to eat.
Vaccines
Vaccines are a necessary part of raising puppies. Thanks to vaccines, many diseases like parvo and distemper do have happen as often anymore.
Once your bulldog puppy reaches 6-8 weeks old, vaccines should be given every 2-4 weeks until your dog is 16-20 weeks old. This is necessary because from the time the puppy is weaned to the time it reaches 4 months old its immune system is weak, and so it needs this extra protection.
Puppies are normally vaccinated with Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus, and Parainfluenza. These are all given in the same shot normally called the “distemper shot.”
Rabies should also be given at 4 months of age and then again at one year of age.
Summary
Raising puppies can be fun but be sure educate yourself about what you need to do and when you need to do it. By giving vaccines too late you could be exposing puppies to possible disease.
Good luck raising your bulldog puppies!
