The best place to buy a bulldog from is from a reputable breeder.  Good bulldog breeders usually mate bulldog based on their traits.  In general bulldogs should come close to the breed standard and reputable breeders will try and maintain this breed standard to maintain their reputation.

The best way to find a good bulldog breeders is by contacting your local bulldog club, or if there is none close, contact the American Kennel Club, and they should have some information for you.

Make sure to visit the breeder several times before buying to get a sense of how the run their operation.  Ask for references from numerous people.

Good breeders should also give a health guarantee.  Normally this guarantee states that you have to take the puppy to a veterinanian within the first 48 to 72 hours for an examination.  if the vet finds something wrong with the dog, you can bring the puppy back for an exchange or a refund

To figure out what the average price of a bulldog is, you need to do some research.  Call several breeders in your area and ask.  I recommend calling at least three people to figure out the price in your area.  this way you can negotiate better when buying a bulldog.
