Welcome to Adopt A Bulldog - First Post!

Welcome to adopt a bulldog!  I’m glad you found this blog.  If you decided to adopt a bulldog than congratulation!  Bulldogs are one of America’s favorite dog breeds (they are actually #10 according to the American Kennel Clubs latest statistics about dog registration)  Bulldogs are also one of the most popular mascots for sports teams as well.  If you have decided you want to adopt a bulldog or at least are interested in adopting one there are somethings you need to consider.

First do you want to adopt a puppy or an adult?  I know many people just assume that they will adopt a puppy, but consider adopting an adult bulldog.  Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and training.  Adult bulldogs have all their shots already and already spayed or neutered.  This saves you time and money going to the veterinarian office.

Second you need to decide where you want to adopt a bulldog from.  If you have decided you want to show your bulldog at dog shows, then that pretty much narrows down your choice to purebred bulldog breeders.  On the other hand if you just want one because you want to have a pet, then you can get one from pretty much anywhere.

Pet stores, shelters, and classified ads are all great places to find a good bulldog but each one has disadvantages as well.  Pets stores are probably the hardest place to find a good quality bulldog to adopt.  First, most pet stores don’t carry bulldogs, and second any bulldogs they have may have come from questionable sources.

Shelters can be a great place to find a dog as well, but realize many owners give up their dogs because of behavioral problems.  Behavior problems are not as common in bulldogs as other breeds of dogs so this should not be of concern to you.

Where ever you do decide to adopt a bulldog from be sure to get if from a good source and make sure you get a health guarantee.  Quality places will give you up to 72 hours to take your new bulldog to be examined by a veterinarian.  So make sure you get this done as soon as possible after adoption.
